The English Premier League team had already agreed to a deal in principle with Werner after meeting his release clause of around 60 million euros ($68 million).

Timo Werner officially became Chelsea’s latest signing earlier today, and there was much rejoicing especially as it looks like Director Granovskaia managed to get the deal done at a slight discount, at just 50m. If Werner can reproduce his form from the past four years at RB Leipzig (93 goals in 157 appearances in all competitions), that will be an absolute bargain.
“We are very excited that Timo Werner has chosen to join Chelsea. He is a player who was coveted all over Europe and it is no surprise, he has that rare mix of being young and exciting and yet established and proven.”

Because of the unique situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Werner’s announcement was not accompanied by the usual in-person interviews and pictures of him holding up the Chelsea shirt at Stamford Bridge. It may be the middle of June, but we’re still playing league football — in fact, Chelsea haven’t even restarted our season yet and will only do so this weekend. Werner will not be joining officially until late July at the earliest, when the Premier League’s transfer window is expected to open.

But the deed is done and there is plenty of excitement, including from Werner himself, who posted a short video on Twitter to say hi in English.
o everyone at @ChelseaFC :
I’m incredibly happy to be joining the Blues next season! It feels like the right step for me and I am delighted to become a part of Chelsea FC. Really looking forward to playing for such a fantastic and historic club!
See you soon Chelsea fans! 👋After Chelsea officially announced the signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig this morning, the Mirror report that the prolific forward is in line to be handed the No.11 shirt for the Blues.

The Mirror claim that Werner is ‘likely’ to take this number as veteran winger Pedro is set to leave the west London outfit on a free transfer to Roma at the end of the month.

It’s added that the attacker will link up with his new teammates when training for next season starts.
